During our stay our resort will be undergoing some construction. I know about it because I have been reading some Disney message boards. Disney has not notified me of this fact. When I reserved the room no one mentioned the construction / renovations going on.I wonder why I was not notified? Do I care? Not really, because I am aware of it – but what about people who don’t do much research, who have no idea that this is going on? They will be upset!
I am not worried because its a decent size resort and odds are that I will NOT be impacted by the noise / mess. Pop Century is where we are staying. They have started the refurbishments in one corner of the resort, and most likely will just continue around. I cant see them skipping around too much. That wouldnt make much sense. They are doing complete gut of the furnishings in the room and redoing them. As of this moment, none of the renovated rooms are done, and no one has stayed in one yet. Rumors say June is when they will start ‘renting’ out the new rooms.
They have started the renovations in building 8, which is in the 90s section on this map. This buidling is the one at the bottom left of the map. As far as I can tell, the only construction will be over in that one building, We requested the 50s or 60s, so if we get what we requested, we will be on the opposite side of the resort from the construction. They only do work during normal daytime hours, so it hopefully wont be too disruptive for anyone staying in that area.
There is another resort getting a bunch of renovations, Caribbean Beach Resort. People are receiving $75/night gift cards for the inconvenience of the construction there. I believe that renovation is a bigger deal – pool closed, food court closed, etc – so that totally makes sense. Even with a discount, I dont think I would want to deal with all the noise, and not be able to access the food court as needed. (Even though we are not planning to eat in the food court, knowing its an option is great!)
How much ‘inconvenience’ would you accept? The amount that people pay to go to Disney World, its hard to accept any at all. I realize that they have to close down things and renovate them or everything would fall apart, but its hard to shell out all the money, fly across the continent, and then have to listen to hammers all day long. On the other hand, if you cant really hear the noise, or see the mess, whats the harm? I am optimistic that the renovations at Pop Century wont affect us at all. Hope I am right!
